You can obtain a job seeker visa or a Long-Term Residence Permit, which allows you to stay in the country for up to 18 months and look for a job. If at the end of this period, you have found employment, you can apply for the German work visa. If you found full-time employment, applying for the EU Blue Card is another option – this option is especially advantageous if you intend subsequently to live and work in another EU state. However, the salary threshold for the EU Blue Card is higher – a minimum salary of EUR 50,800 is required.
As early as 2 years after receiving your German residence permit or your EU Blue Card, you can apply for a Permanent Residence Permit – that is, a Residence Permit without a time limit. Again, the condition is that you still have employment in Germany.

The DAAD admission database has all the information about whether your university entrance qualification or school leaving certificate or any other degrees/certificates will be recognized in Germany. The database also informs you about how these qualifications are assessed. If your school leaving certificate is not recognized in Germany you may need to do a foundation course. To do the foundation course you will need to pass an entrance examination. You need to have at least a B1 level of competency in German for this.
Germany has put in place new immigration laws since 2002. Under these laws you are allowed to work 90 days full-time or 180 days for part-time when your course is on. You can do a campus job or any other job during this time. Once you have finished your degree you can stay in Germany for about a year. This time can be used to obtain employment. Once you have gotten a job your permanent residence permit will be guaranteed.
In Germany, studying for free entails paying no or very cheap tuition expenses. This is especially true at public colleges, which do not charge tuition. Fluency in German or an average of 80% for several universities are among the entry requirements.
