PR applicants are evaluated on various criteria such as age, skills, education, and work experience.
If a candidate decides to study in Canada, they will gain points in three areas – language, education, and work. An education in Canada can give valuable points for various immigration streams such as Express Entry or PNP streams.
Students are also allowed to work up to 20 hours per week while pursuing their course which helps them gain valuable work experience and add points to their CRS score.
Those who have completed their post-graduation after their study in Canada can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
The PGWP has a validity between eight months to three years and helps students to work legally in the country. PWGP holders can work either full-time, or part time and can be self-employed or work for an employer. They need not adhere to the requirement of getting a Labour Market Impact Assessment to be hired for a job.
For a Canada Student Visa, you must get a minimum of 5.5 bands in each of the four IELTS segments for Undergraduate Courses, with an aggregate score of 6.0 or higher. Graduate courses require a score of 6.5 bands, with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the four parts to study in Canada.
The time it takes to process an application varies by country.
Anyone applying for a study permit in Canada from India could expect a processing time of roughly 20 calendar days. Indians might expect a speedier processing period for their study visa in Canada because they are eligible for the Student Direct Stream [SDS].
The validity of your Canada PGWP will be as per the length of your study program. For example, if your study program was two years or above in duration, you might be eligible for a PGWP valid for three years.
A Canadian study permit is valid for the duration of your study course in Canada, plus an additional 90 days.
The extra 90 days are allotted for the purpose of either making preparations for leaving Canada or applying to extend stay in Canada as an international student.
Offering an expedited processing time of within 20 calendar days, the Student Direct Stream (SDS) can get you your study permit much faster.
To be eligible for Canada’s SDS for study abroad, you must be a legal resident living in any of the following countries – India, Pakistan, Vietnam, China, Peru, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Morocco, Senegal, Antigua and Barbuda, Columbia, Philippines, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Costa Rica.
If you are not eligible for the PGWP of Canada, you may still be able to work in Canada after you graduate. You will have to secure a Canada work permit instead.
